The Immuno-T test was developed by specialists in T cell immunology. The test uses tiny fragments of the a virus or bacteria to see if your blood contains T cells that recognise that pathogen.
If your blood contains T cells that recognise the pathogen then those T cells respond by releasing a molecule called IFN-ɣ. We have previously shown that the amount of IFN-ɣ released correlates to how well protected you are from future infection.
T cells are generated in the Thymus and are programmed to be specific for one particular foreign particle (antigen). Once they leave the thymus, they circulate throughout the body until they recognise their antigen.
T cells 101
T cells play a central role in the immune response to viruses. During infection, T cells can directly kill infected cells or help control the antibody response.
